Collection of works from film-maker Alfred Hitchcock. In 'Saboteur' (1942) factory worker Barry Kane (Robert Cummings) finds himself branded an industrial saboteur after a fire breaks out in the workplace. In 'Shadow of a Doubt' (1943) young Charlie Newton (Teresa Wright) longs for something exciting to happen to brighten her dull existence in Santa Rosa with her parents, when the arrival of her Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotten) lifts her spirits. Uncle Charlie soon makes himself at home, but his suspicious behaviour begins to unsettle his niece. In 'Rope' (1948), believing themselves to be intellectually superior to their contemporaries, flatmates Brandon (John Dall) and Philip (Farley Granger) murder their friend David Kentley (Dick Hogan) purely to see if they can get away with it. In 'Strangers On a Train' (1951) charming tennis star Guy Haines (Granger) and Bruno Antony (Robert Walker) meet by chance on a train carriage. After some idle chat, it transpires that each man has someone in their lives they would like to dispose of. In 'Dial M for Murder' (1954) former tennis pro Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) hatches a cunning plot to get rid of his socialite wife, Margot (Grace Kelly), when he discovers that she has been having an affair with author Mark Halliday (Cummings). In 'Rear Window' (1954), after breaking his leg during a shoot, photo-journalist L.B. 'Jeff' Jeffries (James Stewart) is forced to spend a humid summer recuperating in his Greenwich Village apartment. The wheelchair-bound Jeff whiles away his time observing his neighbours through a telephoto lens, but soon Jeff becomes obsessed with the notion that Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr), who lives in the apartment opposite, has murdered his wife. In 'To Catch a Thief' (1955) ex-cat burglar John Robie (Cary Grant) finds himself forced to prove his innocence after a spate of burglaries on the French Riviera. In 'The Trouble With Harry' (1955), when Harry Rogers' dead body is discovered one autumnal day in Vermont, several people try to keep it a secret. Their attempts to rid themselves of the troublesome corpse lead to further misunderstandings and several disinterments. In 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' (1956) Dr Ben McKenna (Stewart) is on holiday in Morocco with his wife, former singer Jo (Doris Day), and son Hank (Christopher Olsen). The McKennas are befriended by the Draytons, an English couple who take them to the local bazaar. There, Ben is confronted by an Arab who, after being shot in the back, whispers a dying message to him. In 'Vertigo' (1958), after his fear of heights indirectly causes the death of a colleague, San Francisco cop Scottie (Stewart) retires. He is subsequently hired by magnate Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) to follow his wife, Madeleine (Kim Novak), as Elster says he fears for her life. Scottie becomes bewitched by Madeleine, falling in love with her after saving her from a suicide attempt. However, when Scottie's vertigo prevents him saving Madeleine from a second attempt to kill herself, he becomes obsessed with recreating the dead woman's image. In 'North By Northwest' (1959) advertising executive Roger Thornhill (Grant) finds himself in a case of mistaken identity, as members of a strange organisation believe he is a man by the name of George Kaplan due to a miscommunication. With no other option, he flees across the country, being pursued by enemies of the government who are convinced that he is a secret agent. In 'Psycho' (1960) Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) goes on the run after stealing $40,000 from one of her employer's clients. Taking a wrong turn in a storm, she arrives at the isolated Bates Motel, run by the twitchy Norman (Anthony Perkins), who is constantly at the beck and call of his unseen mother. What Marion doesn't know, however, is that her mistake will cost her life. In 'The Birds' (1963) spoiled socialite Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) pursues lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) to his Bodega Bay home after they meet in a bird shop. Melanie sails across the bay to deliver the gift of a lovebird to Mitch's young sister, only to be attacked by a gull on her way back. Soon, random attacks on humans are taking place all over Bodega, as birds of all varieties amass in their thousands overhead. In 'Marnie' (1964) kleptomaniac Marnie Edgar (Hedren), who moves from job to job and has a pathological fear of the colour red, is caught stealing by latest employer, Mark Rutland (Sean Connery). Instead of turning her over to the police, Mark forces Marnie to marry him, convinced that he can get to the bottom of her psychosis. In 'Torn Curtain' (1966) famous nuclear physicist Michael Armstrong (Paul Newman) defects to East Germany with the intention of acquiring a secret formula from enemy scientist Gustav Lindt (Ludwig Donath). However, Armstrong's mission is placed in peril when he is followed by his assistant and fiancée, Sarah Sherman (Julie Andrews).
