Material Corrosion and Degradation

Material Corrosion and Degradation: Challenges and Solutions for the Oil, Gas, and Process Industries outlines the causes and effects of commonly encountered corrosion and degradation issues specific to the oil, gas, and process industries. Sections introduce readers to the fundamental principles of both microbial induced corrosion (MIC) and microbial induced deterioration (MID), investigating different types of corrosion such as stress corrosion cracking and corrosion under insulation. From there, the book analyzes a number of challenges related to corrosion management, such as soil side corrosion in above ground storage tanks, corrosion in aromatic petrochemical plants, and pipeline corrosion management from design to operation.

Following sections cover corrosion countermeasure strategies, such as effective material selection, corrosion behavior in complex concentrated alloys, and coatings and linings as corrosion prevention tools. The distinction between MIC, MID, and other types of corrosion is emphasized throughout.
