This late-period Chet Baker recording captures the remarkable force he regained during the final year of his life, moving far beyond the laidback, spacious style of many of his earlier sessions as he delivers crisp, fiery trumpet work supported by a tight quartet featuring Harold Danko on piano, Hein Van de Geyn on bass, and John Engels on drums, with Baker offering a bit of vocals although the main focus remains his expressive horn on performances of "Portrait In Black & White," "Stella By Starlight," "For Minors Only," "My Funny Valentine," and a beautifully rendered version of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue."
