A Son Never Forgets

When Jason Evans was four years old, his father, Jonathan, died after being infected with HIV and Hepatitis C through contaminated Factor VIII blood products supplied by the NHS, as part of what later became known as the infected blood scandal. For decades, the truth about what happened to his father was buried in silence, stigma and institutional denial. As an adult, Jason began searching for answers, using Freedom of Information requests, archival research, media pressure, legal action and grassroots campaigning to help expose one of the greatest scandals in British history. A Son Never Forgets is the story of one son’s refusal to accept the official version of events. It follows Jason’s journey from childhood bereavement to the heart of a national campaign, forcing the creation of the UK Infected Blood Inquiry and the UK’s biggest ever state compensation scheme, worth more than £12 billion. This, however, is not only a story about a harrowing public scandal. It is also a deeply personal tale of grief, memory, inherited trauma and identity. Just as Jason thought the battle was won, a surprise discovery reframed his family history in ways he never expected. Part investigative memoir, part family reckoning, A Son Never Forgets is a powerful account of loss, persistence and the fight to make the state tell the truth.
