Chico

"This album is about the feeling of wanting something more than anything else in life. That looks different for everyone, but for me, it looks like wanting a life that truly feels like it belongs to me. Not an occupation, not money, not a social status. I love making music and being in rooms where that's celebrated, and if I want to use the life I didn't ask for to do that, I should be able to. This record is about what it feels like to do that, putting everything else second and the dream first. I think we were able to express all of that in these songs. Musically, this record includes everything we love about rock music. Big guitars, catchy leads, intense vocals, and honest lyric writing. This is the most collaborative Chico release to date. Previous to this record, the songwriting process consisted of Lance and I (Tony) sitting down with an acoustic guitar, making chord progressions and melodies, and sending voice memos back and forth. This time around looked a bit different. While the song ideas were still created by me, we started taking these ideas to the practice studio and trying them out as a band, shooting ideas back and forth and seeing what sticks. Tracks like 'Die Alone,' 'Chico Style,"" and 'Don't Wanna Be Here' are results of this new method, being 100% written together. This record includes tracks that ride the lines of hardcore punk, punk rock, and alternative. At the end of the day, we are a rock band that made what we think is a perfect rock record. No gimmicks, just good rock songs. Our sound has evolved a lot over the years, but we all think this record is the perfect example of what Chico is. This record was engineered by Taylor Hecocks and produced by him and I. Taylor engineered and produced our past releases, however, this was the first record we made where I had a clear vision of what I wanted and how I wanted to achieve it. Taylor, as always, did an amazing job of helping us achieve that. What was different about this record is that it is the first time we've mixed it with someone else. Scott Goodrich mixed and mastered this record and is part of the reason it came out so great. He really took his time and made sure our first LP was everything it could be. From mixing drums, to adding live tambourine, to creating sick vocal effects using guitar pedals - he left no stone unturned in helping us get the best product possible. Having worked with bands like Culture Abuse, The Story So Far, and Bad World - we knew he was the man for the job. Chico - Chico is our most important release yet. So, being able to sign with New Morality for our debut record is just what we needed to help it reach as many people as possible. We're excited to be a part of a label that loves punk rock as much as we do. This is only the beginning for Chico and we can't wait to get to work!"
