Forest Law Golden Crown Enchanted Vinyl

Written in 2018, Golden Crown is a song Forest Law originally chose to set aside, convinced at the time that it was simply too pop and a little too playful. Revisiting it several years later with fresh ears, he realised there was nothing to fix. Apart from a new vocal take and a handful of lyrical changes, the track remains almost exactly as it was when it was first written. Carried by a rhythm inspired by Brazilian music—with a subtle nod to Gilberto Gil’s Toda Menina Baiana—the song moves forward without a snare drum, giving it an unusually fluid, buoyant feel. Beneath its bright, carefree surface, however, Golden Crown reflects on the pursuit of power, suggesting that those who crave it most are often the most miserable, and that their unhappiness inevitably spills over onto everyone around them.Forest Law’s rendition of Enchanted grew out of a genuine musical revelation. Despite years of friends trying to introduce him to Prefab Sprout, the band’s music never quite clicked until a recording session in the south of France, where musician Emma Mario played him a selection of their songs. The effect was immediate. Captivated by Enchanted, Forest Law spent the following months immersed in the band’s catalogue, eventually deciding to reinterpret the song as a way of understanding its remarkable songwriting from the inside out. Originally recorded simply for the pleasure of it, the cover features additional synth textures by Emma Mario, who also mixed the track. The result preserves the wit and elegance of the original, whose lyrics offer a tongue-in-cheek take on male chauvinism and the performance of masculinity.
