With Grumpy Pieces, Düsseldorf-based musician Stefan Schwander, akaHarmonious Thelonious, returns with an album that gathers many of theelements that have defined the project over the years – whilesimultaneously pushing them apart. The record feels like a tightening ofearlier ideas: interlocking melodies, hypnotic patterns, a sustainedfocus on rhythm and texture, paired with a sound that is rougher, drierand more immediate than before.
