High Wycombe Revisited

<p><strong>This absorbing collection of images offers a nostalgic glimpse into the history of <em>High Wycombe</em> during the last century.</strong> Situated between the Chiltern Hills, <em>High Wycombe's</em> early prosperity was based on its watermills and the market which served a large surrounding area. Later, furniture making grew into a major local industry employing over a quarter of the town's population in the late Victorian era. Alongside recollections of the area's industrial heritage tie volume also recalls aspects of everyday life, from schools and churches, shops and public houses, to leisure pursuits and celebrations - including King George V's coronation celebrations in 1911. Illustrated with over 190 pictures <em>High Wycombe Revisited</em> recalls life in the town during the first half of the twentieth century, when much of the old town still remained.</p>
