Japanese Language Dissemination Policies in Colonial Korea

<P>This book introduces and analyses the development of Japan’s colonial language policies in Korea during the Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific War period of 1937-1945. It discusses the coercive promotion of <I>Kokugo joyo </I>or ‘compulsory use of Japanese’ policy, among others, and the resulting extent and impact of the colonial language policies enforced by Japanese imperialist powers. Original copies of action plans published as <I>Chosen Sotokufu no kokugo seisaku shiryo </I>or ‘Documents of national language policies by the Government-General of Korea’ are studied to contribute to a growing discussion of colonial language policies around the world.</P>
