Japanese Traditional Theatre Architecture and Practitioners

Japanese Traditional Theatre Architecture and Practitioners: Exploring Theatres with Virtual 3D Technology introduces the history and concepts behind traditional Japanese theatre architecture by exploring structures using virtual technology. This book explores Japan’s long history of sustaining and protecting the traditional performing arts, Nohgaku, Joruri Puppetry, and Kabuki. Virtual 3D technology allows us to “walk through” traditional theatres to observe and understand the architecture and the performance spaces on a deeper level. Each chapter explains a performance type, its history, and explores traditional theatre through virtual 3D technology. The book also includes 27 interviews with theatre practitioners who are passionate about preserving and passing down their traditions. This book will be of interest to those studying, researching, and teaching Japanese and East Asian theatre, Theatre Architecture, and Theatre History.
