Modernism Beyond the Canon Women Writers, Global Currents, and Local Value

Modernist navigations with modernity are diverse and culturally nuanced. Taking students and researchers beyond the narrow canon of ‘great modernists’, Modernism Beyond the Canon is an essential introduction to approaching the linguistic breadth, mobility, and regionalism of modernist women writers across the world. It challenges aesthetic, national, and gendered constructions of canonicity and considers the role and limits of translation in approaching global modernisms. It provides a valuable guide to the complexity and contradictions in the careers and work of modernist women writers.

Modernism Beyond the Canon includes entries on modernist fiction writers, poets, journalists, critics, editors and publishers from:

· South-West Asia and North Africa
· India, China, Japan, and Korea
· Australia and New Zealand
· West Africa
· The Caribbean
· The Jewish diaspora
· The United Kingdom, Europe and the Republic of Ireland
· Scandinavia
.
