No Surprises, Please!

August the fox doesn’t like surprises – at all. He prefers quiet, safe activities like reading or making something beautiful. His friend Suzy the squirrel, on the other hand, loves running, jumping and doing all sorts of wild things. So when Suzy announces she has a surprise planned just for him, August’s imagination runs wild. Worried and nervous, he dreams up the most dreadful things of what Suzy might have planned. What if she comes by with something big and scary? What if she takes him to a place that's very loud? What if she makes him do something difficult? But when the surprise is finally revealed, August discovers that reality is far kinder and much more wonderful than he could have ever imagined. Help! A Surprise! is the first title in the bestselling Dutch picture book series following the unlikely friendship between cautious August and adventurous Suzy. Filled with warmth and playful humour, author/illustrator Miriam Bos brings their gentle adventures to life through bold colours and vividly detailed illustrations, creating a vibrant world bursting with heart and personality. And as the pages turn, one thing becomes clear: Suzy understands August much better than he realises – and true friendship sometimes means knowing exactly when (and how!) to surprise someone.
