Noel Alpins' Practical Astigmatism Planning and Analysis

The surgical correction of astigmatism is the last frontier to optimizing visual outcomes for patients. This 2nd edition includes updated refractive procedures that provides readers with unique insight to what happened surgically: did the astigmatism over or under correct? Was the astigmatic treatment placed on-axis or off-axis? Prof. Noel Alpins has developed the Alpins Method of astigmatism to analyze both refractive (subjective) and corneal (objective) astigmatism parameters that ophthalmologists can use in future surgery to improve visual outcomes. Key Features:Features vector planning for refractive laser surgery (KLEx, LASIK, PRK) as well as planning and analysis applied to cataract, limbal relaxing incisions and intracameral lenses, in addition to demonstrating graphical analysis of astigmatism using both Polar and Double Angle Vector Diagrams as recommended in scientific journals. Helps ophthalmologists, optometrists, and technicians alike address each patient’s unique astigmatism circumstances and act as your in-depth guide to maximising the correction of astigmatism. Emphasises the use of the accurate corneal topographic astigmatism (CorT) parameter that is derived as a vectorial mean of all Placido rings captured during topography and not just simulated keratometry (SimK) which uses the 3mm Placido only to derive the corneal astigmatism. Addresses hemidivisional planning and analysis of an irregular cornea (which displays an asymmetric and/or non-orthogonal bow-tie) by using the CorT total parameter to effectively divide the cornea into 2 halves and customise the astigmatic treatment for each using vector planning. Accurate toric IOL planning with total measured corneal power using corneal topographic astigmatism (CorT total).
