For their new album, the two frequently (Melody Gardot, Nils Landgren, Till Brönner, Nils Wülker, Anders Jormin, Orchestra Baobab) engaged musicians Arne Jansen (guitar) and Stephan Braun (cello) have set the following guideline: We tell our own stories – the central theme of the album is friendship.‘Short Stories’ shows how masterfully and innovatively Jansen and Braun have mastered their art – thanks to special techniques and the use of delays, loops and pedals, it often sounds like much more than just a duo. You can almost hear synthesizers, the rhythmic scraping of drum brushes or club beats.Like any good storyteller, Jansen and Braun leave room for the unsaid, opening up spaces for interpretation that resonates in the mind of the listener. Just like songwriting genius Bob Dylan, whose ‘A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall’ ends the recording. The song, which was written under the impression of the Cuban Missile Crisis, has unfortunately not lost any of its relevance, Jansen believes.
