The PlayStation didn’t just match them, though; it became one of the greatest video game consoles in history. Many games that were released on the original PlayStation are now iconic. Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid gave us stories that are still exciting and emotional today. Ridge Racer, Wipeout, and Gran Turismo sold people on the power of 3D racing on a console. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon became two of the most beloved platformer franchises in history. Tomb Raider, of course, was a sensation. The PlayStation didn’t just bring a more ‘adult’ connotation to the medium, it also gave us games that became part of pop culture, games that are still admired, discussed, remastered, and remade for modern consoles now. This book features the details behind the creation of Sony’s original PlayStation and the numerous famous and beloved games that were released on it, via extensive research and interviews.
