The Kybalion

A concise exposition of Hermetic philosophy, presenting the foundational principles attributed to the tradition of ancient Egyptian and Greek esoteric thought.

The Kybalion sets forth a series of seven principles said to govern mental, spiritual, and material reality, including correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. Framed as a modern articulation of older Hermetic teachings, the work offers a structured account of these concepts, emphasising their application to both inward discipline and the interpretation of experience. Its language is direct and systematic, presenting philosophical ideas in a compact and accessible form.

First published in 1908 under the pseudonym "Three Initiates," the text occupies a central place within the development of modern metaphysical and New Thought literature. While drawing upon earlier traditions associated with Hermes Trismegistus, it reflects the intellectual currents of its time, translating esoteric ideas into a form suited to early twentieth-century readers. The work continues to be widely read as an introduction to Hermetic philosophy and as a concise statement of a particular strand of metaphysical thought.
