The Structure Within: Internalized Oppression, Def ensiveness and Resentment

What happens when the structures of oppression we live under seep into our very being, shaping how we think, feel, and relate to one another? The Structure Within explores the powerful interplay between personal histories and systemic inequalities, revealing how experiences of connection are often overshadowed by mistreatment, shame, and division. Grounded in sociological insights, this book unpacks how internalized oppressions – racism, sexism, classism, and more – create a persistent ‘noise’ that limits our ability to connect, collaborate, and dream. But it also offers hope: by recognizing and addressing this noise, and being honest about our own collusion in others’ oppression, we can make space for dialogue, healing, and transformation – a foundation for imagining and building radical new ways of relating. This is a call to action: to sit at the table, stay in conversation, and reimagine the relationships and societies we want to create. Can we silence the noise within to truly listen to each other – and ourselves? The Structure Within invites you to try.
