Weaving LocalGlobal Connections in Education Transformative CommunityEngaged Partnerships

This book brings together diverse voices, practices, and perspectives to explore how transformative community engagement can advance equity, justice, and belonging through local-global partnerships in education. Grounded in multilingual, multicultural, and community-driven work, the chapters illustrate how educators, researchers, and community members co-construct knowledge, foster inclusive learning environments, and resist deficit-based narratives. By highlighting projects that center cultural responsiveness, shared authority, and long-term relational work, the book offers a vision for how universities and communities can collaborate to address systemic inequities and support the strengths of historically marginalized groups—particularly immigrant and resettled families. Through this collective inquiry, the book invites readers to reimagine education as a participatory, culturally sustaining, and justice-oriented practice. It provides case studies, best practices, and theoretical approaches, exploring how various individuals, including faculty, administrators, and organizational management, engage with their communities. This is an ideal book for education academics interested in the theoretical aspects of community engagement, as well as educators, administrators, community-engaged practitioners, and local community and non-profit organizations aiming to implement similar community-engaged practices and projects.
