Diversity is not Our Strength

Race and community relations are getting worse. The online world and the education system continue to push identity politics that divides rather than unites the younger generation. Those on the political right are moving towards more extreme and reactionary positions, with some opposing a multicultural society altogether. On the left, the response has been to demonise as fascist all expression of concerns that liberal multiculturalism is creating tensions. We're more divided than ever. The current crisis leaves many entirely abandoning that different races can live together united by any form of patriotism. But despair is not an option. We need to chart a way forward and bind people together. That is the purpose of this book. Grounded in the author's experience working at the forefront of the British education system, this book argues for a multicultural patriotism - where different identities exist within a unified national identity. Birbalsingh asserts that duties to others should speak louder than our individual rights and shows us how this change can begin within ordinary families and ordinary schools. This country is not just somewhere we happen to live, it is a home we inherit, shape and ultimately pass on - and we're all a vital part of moulding its future.
