The neighbours in Shanghai''s most beautiful neighbourhood, the Former French Concession, lead their daily lives, but underneath the surface lurk the troubles of the past, lost love, betrayal, existences destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, dreams, Covid-19 and Jing Zhang, the neighbourhood cat with a love for Philosophy and an understanding of the frailties of his human friends. Will he survive . . .My Shanghai Neighbours is a series of a short stories and tales, each story following a character and resident within the neighbourhood, collectivley painting an atmospheric representation of the Former French Concession neighbourhood.The author lived in this very neighbourhood in reality but this book is pure fiction and all the characters are fictional. The only exception is the cat called Jing Zhang, who exists and has his own chapter in the book.
