Through Grit and Grace

Through Grit and Grace tells of Eva Sideman’s fascinating life, which began in war-torn Romania, continued as a political refugee in Vienna, and unfolded in the United States as a student and citizen. Sideman describes the life of a child and young teen as it was lived during World War II, the Holocaust, and in the early era of East European communism before the secret financial ransoms of the 1950s and 1960s enabled thousands of Jews to escape the country. Sideman’s moving memoir concludes with her new life in America, the opportunities she has had here, the advanced education she received, and her rewarding professional life. It is a story of persecution, submission, irrepressible hope, determination, resilience, hard work, and the joy of survival.
